January Sunset. . . .

 Wednesday, 4:30pm-ish, mid-January . . . .
Facing north-East, a larger island between me and the Mainland. . .
Sun is setting behind my back -- I can't see the sunset for all the island's trees in the way, never mind the heavy winter sky. . . But whatever it's doing far behind me gets reflected back by these banks of clouds in the east.  I'm captivated by this bounce of coloured light. . . that band of apricot that gets laid down along the water, striping itself along the island's coast. Or is it just along the horizon. . . .
And then it ripples out from there. . . .
Here, teased out by a bright cloud, there, almost occluded by a dark. . . .

Competing with the more emphatic colour of the freighter (which wins on boldness but hasn't a patch on delicacy) . . . and can you spot the paddler in the yellow kayak?

Once the kayaker's paddled by, my only company is the sealion whose flipper you might spot, above.

Restorative. I always find it so restorative. I hope you might, as well -- enjoy!

  1. Restorative - yes - that's it.
I spotted both kayaker and flipper and enjoyed every shot of that wonderfully reflected light.
This evening I drove west, into the sunset, from Agassiz to Abbotsford. The sky was so beautiful. What a gift at the end of an ordinary January day.

  2. It's restorative scrolling slowly through your photos, imagining the sights and sounds and cold air on one's face. Lovely light. Wednesday was a beautiful sunny day.

  3. There are few things more soothing than an evening sky over the water. I wish I could send you a picture of "my" sunset across tha lake...

I'd love to hear your response to my post. Agree, disagree, even go off on a tangent, I love to know you're out there, readers. Let's chat, shall we? I apologize, though, for the temporary necessity of the Word Verification -- spam comments have been tiresomely numerous lately, and I'm hoping to break that pattern.
