Summer Sittin' . . .

Now that we've finally got some summer weather happening here, I think I might try posting daily shots of sunny goodness. Paul just picked up these heavy-duty happy, comfortable chairs made of eco recycled plastic, made in Canada (and they have an impressive warranty) -- he chose the colours himself from what was available at Flying Fish that day rather than waiting to order from a wide array. And don't they make you smile? The rest of our outdoor furniture is teak, Fair-trade, sustainably-sourced, designed and imported by a local business. I love it, but this shot of Crayola is just what I wanted to kick off those good summer vibrations.

They even inspired me to take my first ocean swim of the season/year this morning -- and I might have a dip again before dinner. Meanwhile, I'll be out in the sunshine, reading my book.

Happy weekend!

ADDED: We bought our chairs at Flying Fish in downtown Nanaimo, but my Google search found me this article by garden expert Steve Whysall, and I found the name of the manufacturer, C.R. Plastic Products -- their website offers online shopping for Canadian AND American customers.

  1. Before I even read your text, I was going to write, "just looking at those chairs makes me smile." I can picture the two of you sitting and enjoying the sun and perhaps a granddaughter playing nearby.

  2. Our chairs are lined up along the pond, just waiting for us. I love the colour your husband chose - well done!
I wonder when I'll get into the ocean this year. I don't suppose that wading counts!

    1. I think he did well, also. I could, maybe should, have gone into town with him to choose, but decided to let go (this time, anyway).
And let's count wading too, the ultimate summer image, wading at low tide. . .

  3. I love those cheery chairs!
We have some in cedar but their colour has aged into a brown/grey shade...yours are so much more inviting!
Hope that you are having a lovely weekend in this grand weather.

We are about to grill a steak and have a cocktail...
perhaps you are sitting in your chair glass in hand?
    Cheers!

    1. We've mostly got the aged silvery brown-grey of teak and cedar here, so a dash of the non-Natural Crayola makes a nice break.
Steak and a cocktail -- good way to kick off the weekend -- enjoy!

  4. Dang, our teak Adirondacks are in serious need of an oiling. And these plastic ones just look. so. good!

    1. We left our teak chairs unfinished as we were told they would last alright that way also. They seem to be doing so, but like a nice scrubbing every year or so. Probably about the same time yours need an oiling. Always something needs our attention for cleaning or maintenance, right?!

  5. Those are wonderful. People around here have taken to putting Adirondacks out on their suburban front lawns. These two would be perfect in California - blend right in with the flowers. I like them very much indeed.

  9. I have that red chair - 2! I have teamed them with pots of red geraniums, to cheer up our absolutely appalling UK 'summer'

I'd love to hear your response to my post. Agree, disagree, even go off on a tangent, I love to know you're out there, readers. Let's chat, shall we? I apologize, though, for the temporary necessity of the Word Verification -- spam comments have been tiresomely numerous lately, and I'm hoping to break that pattern.
