Four grown kids, six delightful grandchildren, constant, long-time partner. A retired academic, I'm adapting to life in a Vancouver condo after decades in a waterfront home on a very small (Canadian) West Coast island. Keen to discover what new priorities emerge, what interests persist, in this urban life after 60!
We're back in our Vancouver apartment after a quick trip up to the Okanagan to visit in-laws. My BIL and SIL have a summer place there and Pater's sibs were together with his parents -- all of them together for the first time in a few years. With his parents both 84, there are a limited number of opportunities for this and the gathering was well worth the trip.
Plus the added bonus of stunning and well-loved scenery on the way there and back. I have long abhorred the motto on our provincial licence plates -- BC: The Best Place on Earth -- as either arrogant or provincial or simply foolishly hubristic, but there's no question we live in a beautiful place. So much variety, all within a 5-6 hour drive. Desert to rainforest, snow to cherries ripening in the sun (altho' sun is at a distinct premium here right now).
I'll say a bit more about the trip in the next day or so, perhaps, but meanwhile here are some pretty pictures for you to enjoy while we try to wrestle our wine cases back to the island -- car, ferry, wheelbarrow . . .Eventually, we'll be sitting on the beach with a glass of Quails Gate Rosé Say Ahhhhhhhhh . . . .
And I know I'm way behind in my blog reading and commenting what with this week's road trip following last weekend's busy-ness. Please forgive -- I'll catch up soon.
